I usually write about smaller, concrete details. The Light, however, is a broad song. I wrote it looking at Odette, my and Nelle’s child, when they could first sit up by themselves. Big, ancient feelings crash into me all the time when I’m with Odette. It’s such a privilege. I doubt I could have written a song as sweeping and zoomed out as The Light without having been in early-dad-dom.
lyrics
What happens when The Lights turn off?
What happens when you die?
When you flip the record to the other side?
When you slip through the Universal drain?
When you learn Death’s first name?
What happens when The Lights cut on?
What happens when you’re born?
What is learning for?
Where are we headed towards?
Is anyone keeping score?
What happens when it’s all chaos?
What happens when I’m feeling lost?
What happens when The Lights run hot?
What happens when The Lights run hot?
Another of our fave hymns that we like to sing at our gatherings.Mr Taylor never fails to deliver, Jesus shot me in the Head indeed.Walk into the light. drbaz

This is a very strong sophomore record - No sophomore slump here. This shows Gudasz' growth as a songwriter. She's branching out in different directions musically with some very cool production work. Some of the songs are even better than those from Oleander, her debut LP. While some of those sounds/textures are still present here, this record has some more challenging (and rewarding) results. For fans of Leonard Cohen, Sharon Van Etten, Aimee Mann and Joni Mitchell. travm0
